Equipping Lifelong Learners

LISA’S STORY

Following a career as a corporate Human Resources executive, Lisa shifted her focus to raising her child. In this new role, she witnessed the challenges and shortcomings of the educational system as well as the lack of support beyond basic education. Not long after, she discovered the next professional chapter in her life, choosing to help children who struggle to acquire the necessary skills for successful lifelong learning. Having earned a second master’s degree while becoming a fully trained and certified NILD Educational Therapist, Lisa continues to add the tools she needs to give children every opportunity for success in reaching their fullest God-given potential.

Learning Foundation

Because a child’s underlying perceptual and cognitive skills provide a foundation for academic learning, Lisa chose the name Learning Foundation to represent her focus on strengthening these underlying deficits. Once these skills are addressed, a child’s confidence grows and the learning process begins to work in an efficient manner. Children become independent lifelong learners as their “learning foundation” is strengthened and built upon.

Educational Therapy

Lisa’s qualifications exceed what is required to operate in the educational therapy field. She stays current on the best practices as research evolves. Her educational degrees complement the therapy process combining her master’s degrees in psychology and education to provide the basic foundation for building students’ plans.

She is also able to go beyond the technical aspects of the therapy process building the emotional components essential to rebuilding and strengthening a child’s self-esteem, resulting in confidence in his or her abilities and potential.

Reading Instruction

Orton-Gillingham Approach

Lisa uses the Orton-Gillingham Approach which is a direct, explicit, multisensory, structured, sequential diagnostic, and prescriptive way to teach literacy when reading, writing, and spelling do not come easily to individuals such as those with dyslexia. It is a powerful tool for assisting the student to become a competent reader, writer, and independent learner.
